In the below talk Markus mentions that most specialists recommend not bringing your heart rate above 95-110 bpm in the first three months after successful treatment and not above 110-130 bpm in the following three months. This recommendation has now been changed – new recommendations are in the range of 95-100 bpm for the first year and 100-110 bpm after that until a slight increase does not cause any PEM/PESE. This is also discussed in the video here

Apheresis Center Physiotherapist Costas Theodorou discusses how to apply Physiotherapy to Chronic Illness for the patients wellbeing without running the risk of worsening their condition. Whilst our initial physiotherapy at the Apheresis Center solely focuses on passive mobilization and staying inside the energy envelope with pacing techniques, the after treatment therapy together with our Health Coach Tanja Walser focuses on (very) gradual step by step improvements.
As a recent study shows, during the months after treatment/in recovery phase excessive exercise should be avoided: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41569-024-00992-5
Another study shows that damaging processes can take place if excessive exercise is not avoided and PEM (Post Excertional Malaise) is triggered: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-023-44432-3
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please never agree to the outdated and dangerous GET (Graded Exercise Training) if that therapy form for chronic illness is still suggested!
